James M. Bermudez, PE
Mr. Bermudez is a construction professional with over 30 years of experience in a variety of capacities. A former U.S. Army officer in the Field Artillery, he has broad-based management expertise having acquired experience in both public and private organization including engineering firms, construction consulting firms, and with a builder/contractor. His professional engagements include project management positions in design and construction. As director of construction services for a general contractor, with a cadre of superintendents and field personnel, he was fully responsible for P&L performance, risk assessment, and oversight of several concurrent construction, design-build, and construction management projects. He advises owners, contractors, and attorneys on variety of public and private sector projects. He has worked in partnership with clients in the U.S., Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and Puerto Rico.
He holds a B.S. in Engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and a M.S. in Civil Engineering from Columbia University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in New York and Connecticut.
William A. Prettitore, PE
Mr. Prettitore has over 30 years of experience in the construction industry. His project experience is acquired throughout the United States and internationally, and includes assignments related to railroad, power generation, education, aviation, highway, commercial, residential, water treatment and hospitality sectors. He has a background of successful achievements which spans public and private organizations, an owner, a constructor, an engineer, a utility, and several consultants. His expertise includes contract analysis and administration, project management, scheduling, procurement, budgets, training, risk management, claims avoidance, dispute resolution and project controls.
Bill has been responsible for successful delivery of construction projects and consulting services, and has supervised project executives in the procurement, planning, and control of design and construction programs. During his tenure at the NYC School Construction Authority, Mr. Prettitore rose to the position of Deputy Director (“Chief”) overseeing a $2B school program in three boroughs. He then became a Principal at one of the nation’s premiere consulting firms, and he subsequently held an executive position at the oldest minority-owned constructor in the U.S.
Bill has authored many technical standards and expert reports. He also has extensive experience rending expert testimony for construction-related legal proceedings. He has also presented numerous educational and training seminars. He holds a B.E. in Civil Engineering from New York University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in New York.
Steve Lauria, RA, RLA, LEEDap
Mr. Lauria is an architect with over 30 years of experience in managing high-quality projects for higher education, biomedical research, health science, infrastructure, and public facilities. Steve directs multidisciplinary teams of architects and engineers in preparation of a range of planning and architectural services for federal and local governments, higher education institutions and corporations. He has performed site and facility audits and analyses, multidisciplinary conceptual and final cost analyses on large-scale planning and small facilities projects, preparation of schedules, budgets, development of programs of requirements, code analyses, constructability reviews, third party construction inspection, value engineering, and design through post occupancy commissioning.
His breadth of experience with diverse facility types through all phases of design and construction lends credence to the conceptual cost analyses process. His knowledge of historical data, and of project types assures application of the most appropriate resources for each project and results in realistic parametric estimates and life-cycle cost analysis prepared. He has also coordinated and participated in effective community planning associated with several projects; coordinating town hall meetings, soliciting stakeholder participation and input and ensuring follow through on goals.
Steve holds B.S. degrees in Architecture from North Carolina State University. He is also a licensed in the State of Maryland.
Michael Cholden-Brown, CCP, CEP, PSP, CCM, PMP
Michael has been working in NYC constructions for over 30 years, advising owners on a variety of public and private sector projects with construction values up to $10.9B, principally on Cost, Schedule, Risk, and Strategic approaches. He has many years in field construction and management which strengthens his understanding of processes from key perspectives and has primarily been involved creation and optimization of CPM schedules using Primavera P6 and Cost Engineering practices for forecasting likely program cost, and evaluation/validations of cost estimates the Owner has received. He has worked on Buildings, Transit Mega-projects, and Water Treatment plants, and in development and integrations with ERP financial and project management systems, for public authorities, contractors, and Engineering firms in Program/Constructions management. He is an Experienced Construction and Project Controls Manager, with Extensive Project Controls, Management, Cost, Schedule, and Strategic Analysis expertise.
He is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and of Columbia University.
Kenneth F. Haines, CFCC
Mr. Haines has more than 30 years of experience in construction and construction claims preparation, evaluation and analysis. He has represented owners, contractors and design professionals on a wide variety of projects including convention centers, schools, highways, baseball stadia, courthouses and commercial buildings. He is particularly skilled at performing productivity damage analyses and calculating delay damages, extra work, and other claimed damages. Ken has prepared expert reports for both litigation and arbitration and has testified as an expert for both owners and contractors in litigation and arbitration. He is familiar with various ADR mechanisms, having made presentations in numerous mediation and settlement meetings on behalf of owners, contractors and design professionals.
Ken has published numerous articles and has lectured extensively on the topics of preventing construction claims, calculation of delay and productivity damages and schedule delay analysis in both public and in-house seminars. He is a Certified Forensic Claims Consultant (CFCC), by the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering International (AACEI). He holds a B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering from Manhattan College in New York City.
Chief Financial Officer
Debbie Metheny has been with Invictus since 2012. Her primary responsibilities include financial and personnel management. Prior to joining Invictus, she worked in a similar capacity for another construction management firm. Debbie spent over 20 years working for various consulting agencies including KPMG Peat Marwick, Wilton Connecticut Public Schools, and Montage Software as a financial consultant.
Debbie holds a B.S. from the University of California at Davis and a M.P.A. from Pepperdine University.
Rebecca P. Groover, Lt. Col., USAF Retired
Ms. Groover, a retired Air Force officer and pilot, develops business relationships to identify commercial opportunities for Invictus, primarily in the public sector. She also identifies potential talent to join the Invictus Team. During her 27 years of service to the nation, she worked in several mission-critical capacities including an assignment with an Air Force Civil Engineering Unit where she managed military personnel who maintained the air base infrastructure and its facilities. As an instructor pilot she supervised and trained student-pilots. She also held various other leadership positions in technical roles.
Rebecca holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and in Mathematics from Vanderbilt University.
