Cost Estimators

This is a PART TIME position. The Cost Estimator will collaborate with our Project Controls Team in the New York City office, primarily, but not exclusively, on major heavy/light rail transit and roadway/bridge projects.

What You’ll Do:
Prepare or review estimates at different levels of completion (Conceptual, Schematic, DD, CD, etc.)
Prepare basis of estimate as required in accordance with the program requirements
Analyze and identify scope of work from existing conditions, plans, and specifications through all phases of design and construction
Prepare and/or review accurate quantity takeoffs, breakdowns and materials pricing
Obtain labor rates, taxes and insurance requirements, as needed for estimate development
Review designs and specifications for cost-effectiveness and suggest appropriate alternatives
Participate in client and contractor negotiations to resolve contract changes and claims
Continually seek to understand customer goals and needs and act with a sense of urgency in meeting customer needs and demonstrating value

We’re Looking For:
Strength of Character
A minimum of 15 years of construction experience would be a plus
Recent cost estimating experience with: NYSDOT, NYSTA, MTA, PANYNJ
Experience in Federal projects and applicable software (i.e. Micro-Computer Aided Cost Estimating System Second Generation (MII) )
Strong computer skills with estimating software (knowledge of HCSS Heavybid is a plus)
B.S. in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times
